Objective of the position

Our stairlifts are produced as 'high end' products in our own factory in Krimpen aan den IJssel. As an Electronic Engineer you'll have the opportunity to make a unique contribution to the development of our socially relevant products. The technological challenges of the Electrical & Embedded software team are, among other things, the development of own motor control, safety systems, wireless systems and cost effective design. For example, take a look at our advanced ASL patent on YouTube, which describes the essential communication between different systems in our stairlift.

As an Electronic Engineer you will work on PCB development while working closely with the other Soft- and Hardware Engineers. Together we work in a self-managing scrum team of 5-7 engineers. Of course, you will also work closely together with Mechanical, Test & Qualification and Improvement Engineers in your developments. Next to contributing to our larger scale projects you are also responsible for implementing changes on your existing PCBA's & electronics according to our quality process. In your work it is essential that you can convince the notified body about the validity of our design towards the required standards and legislation, one of the tools to do so is to perform analyses such as (D)FMEA and provide the documentation accordingly. In general, to guarantee safety & quality, all own design changes are carefully documented, tested and implemented. A part of this are the 'in-circuit' (ICT) and 'in-line' (FCT) production tests that must be introduced/updated at our EMS.

We are looking for an Electronic Engineer with at least three years of experience in electronics development & realization. Knowledge of EMC and preferably also SIL (Safety Integrity Level) are desired. Within the Electronics team the working hours are fairly flexible. Each working day will start with an online morning 'daily', but you may decide to start earlier or finish late. Working from home is possible but it is desired you are in the office for 1-2 days a week. In this role you report to the Team lead Electronic & Embedded Software Engineering who acts as Product Owner (PO) within the team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible for the architecture, design, and realization of our PCBAs;
  • You draft the requirements for the electronics in our products;
  • You initiate innovation or product improvements, by realizing concept proposals into prototypes, in multiple iterations;
  • You develop, analyze and review designs, function models and prototypes using calculations, available components and new technologies;
  • You will release and maintain our PCBA schematics according to standardized company procedure;
  • You support in writing design documentation for inspection authorities.

Job Requirements:

  • Completed HBO or WO education; in the direction of Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics or Embedded systems;
  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience as an electronics designer with PCBA design (in Europe);
  • Seriously interested in settling in the Netherlands;
  • Demonstrated experience with designs that meet EMC requirements and certification;
  • Demonstrated experience with motor control is a must and huge plus if you have experience with SIL safety requirements;
  • Affinity and experience with Embedded software, which may be incidental to the position;
  • Accustomed to working project based such as with the V-model and have experience with partitioning into multiple iterations such as in Agile, Scrum, etc.;
  • You have problem solving and improvisational skills;
  • Good communication skills both in Dutch and English;
  • Finally, you have analytical thinking skills and you are stress resistant, assertive, quality oriented and you work good within a team.

What does an average workday look like:

  • Following the daily stand-up there are often some meetings scheduled to discuss issues with the Product Owner or in an expertise group;
  • After that you are often in contact with other teams or suppliers to coordinate matters concerning your project or our production of PCBA's at our EMS;
  • With some regularity, support in the factory, test room or within the department is provided to other teams;
  • Depending on the day, in the afternoon there is a refinement of the backlog (descriptions and/or additions of details etc.). All members of the Scrum team contribute to the refinement. This is desirable because it ensures that all members are aware of the work to be done. In addition, you are expected to independently update Jira issues (issue tracker): this provides insight into all the project that we do;
  • Finally, hardware releases are regularly released with design documentation and change notes for inspection by the Notified Body. These alternate tasks are divided into sprints, allowing the team to decide who and when a task will be picked up.
